This series of collagraphs was created using a technique known as viscosity printing. This process allows a single plate to produce a multi-coloured print by using inks of different thicknesses (viscosities), enabling the layering of multiple colours in one pass through the press.
It combines both intaglio and relief printmaking methods: ink is worked into recessed grooves and textured areas of the plate’s surface (intaglio), while additional layers are applied to the surface (relief). By using both hard and soft rollers, the inks adhere selectively to different areas, preventing the colours from blending together.
The plate is printed only once to produce the final image, making each print unique.
